In their first year, QX made their debut in Mechanics Hall in Worcester, performed with pianists Andrew
Rangall and Judith Gordon at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival (MA), premiered a newly
commissioned work written for them by Christos Koulendros, by invitation of the St. Botolph Club in
Boston and recorded their first CD of works by composer Joseph Summer for Albany Records. Other
performances venues include the St. Paul's Festival in Worcester, Boston College and Boston's Goethe
Institute, where they gave the American premiere of German composer Bernd Franke's "Versuch zur
Nacht", a piece dedicated to the late Louis Krasner, as part of a concert concept linking the Jewish
influence on the music of 19th-century Vienna and 20th-century America. QX founded their own Thayer
Chamber Music Festival in 2005, sponsored by Atlantic Union College, which brought together budding
young instrumentalists for an intensive week of chamber music coaching, faculty and participant concerts.
Based on the success of this initial summer, they have since expanded their Festival to include two 5-day
sessions. The Festival now includes adult amateurs, with the support of a grant from the Amateur
Chamber Music Players, and presents four Faculty concerts and two participant concerts within a 10-day
period. 2006-07 saw their debut in Boston's Jordan Hall as part of the Shakespeare Concerts series, the
release of their Shakespeare CD, which was praised by American Record Guide as “..given creative
expression by these excellent musicians”, collaborations with the Newport dance troupe Island Moving
Company, as well as premieres of works by composers David Claman, John McDonald and Mark Berger.
They continued their "mini-residencies", working with young composers at Tufts University and MIT and
instrumentalists at College of the Holy Cross, held a lecture/recital series at Fitchburg State College, and
were guests of the Worcester Chamber Music Society. Events in 2007-08 included another Shakespeare
Concert in Boston's Jordan Hall, performances at the Center for the Arts in Natick, College of the Holy
Cross and Clark University, appearances as guests of the Worcester Chamber Music Society, and
coaching and performing at their 2008 Festival, held from July 14-25. For the 2008-09 season, QX is the
Quartet-in-residence at Clark University in Worcester, and will give a series of classroom demonstrations
and free-form talks in departments ranging from philosophy, composition, art and film, as well as
perform several recitals that will involve active participation by the current student body and Clark alumni.
Their work as artist/educators will continue, working with the composition students at MIT, Tufts and the
Boston Conservatory of Music. They will also premiere a new quartet written for them by Clark composer
Matthew Malsky, designed to go with the silent film "Berlin, Symphony of a Great City. Their Thayer
Chamber Music Festival, now into its 5th year, will run from July 13-24 in Lancaster, MA, and they will also
add a half-day Youth Seminar, designed as a feeder program for the more advanced Festival from July 27-
31, 2009.
QX is the Boston-based string quartet comprised of violinists Krista Buckland Reisner and Rohan
Gregory, violist Peter Sulski and cellist Jan Müller-Szeraws. Founded in 2005, QX synergizes the diverse
skills of each of its members into a unique style and sound that can be heard in works ranging from the
classics to improvisational world music.
